THE National Social Security Authority (NSSA) Bulawayo branch yesterday donated groceries worth $1 440 to Thembiso Children’s Home as part of its social responsibility programme. The donation included mealie-meal, sugar, sugar beans, salt, toothpaste, cooking oil, kapenta fish, tissue paper and tablets of bath soap.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, NSSA acting regional manager Mrs Unkemetsi Ncube, who spoke on behalf of NSSA public relations manager Mr Phillimon Shereni, said the donation was part of the organisation’s responsibility of helping vulnerable communities. “Our presence here is an indication of our willingness and desire to identify such institutions in our community,” said Mrs Ncube.

She said NSSA’s workers took time off from work to support the less privileged in society. “NSSA employees contributed their own resources before the employer trebled the amount they raised,” said Mrs Ncube.

Mrs Ncube said she was grateful to the administration of Thembiso Children’s Home for taking care of the less-privileged. “You are doing an amazing thing by taking care of our children, it takes those who are called to serve to make such a difference in life,” she said.

The superintendent of Thembiso Children’s Home, Mr Blessed Busiso Maphala, said he was grateful for the role played by NSSA and the corporate world in creating a stable and comfortable home for the less-privileged children. “The groceries we received will go a long way in alleviating some of the challenges faced by the home,” he said.
