THE National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has dragged a Bulawayo firm, Clay Products (Pvt) Ltd, to court over a $148,000 debt accrued in unpaid pension contributions and compensation premiums.

According to summons filed at the High Court on Wednesday, Clay Products is cited as the defendant.

As a registered employer, the company is obliged to pay monthly national pension scheme contributions and worker insurance premiums on a monthly basis.

The pension authority through its lawyers, James Moyo-Majwabu and Partners, is demanding $148,995 and interest from date of summons to date of payment in full as well as costs of suit.

“Defendant has failed to the aforesaid amount of money as at October 31 2015, which monthly contributions were due and payable by the 10th of the following successive month and as a result thereof, the defendant is indebted to the plaintiff in the sum of $148, 955,” reads the summons.

NSSA said the debt was for national pension contributions, national pension surcharges, worker insurance premiums and worker compensation insurance fund penalties.

“Despite written demands made, defendant is indebted to the plaintiff to the sum of $148, 995 and interest has accrued on the debt from date of summons to date of payment in full,” said NSSA.

Clay Products has 10 days to respond to the summons.
