Other Benefits Schemes, the National Social Security Authority has said.
In a statement, NSSA said it was concerned with the low rate of compliance in the commercial farming sector.
The authority said some farmers were also failing to register their enterprises.
“The continued non-compliance now threatens the welfare and social security of agricultural workers who are one of the most vulnerable groups among the working class,” it said.
NSSA has given such farmers an ultimatum to regularise their operations by end of this month.
“NSSA is therefore kindly inviting farmers to regularise their registration and contributions status with the authority by July 31, 2011.”
It said inspectors would enforce the law on farmers who did not comply.
“Such enforcement attracts surcharges and penalties of up to 50 percent of unpaid contributions and insurance premiums,” it said.
“In addition, non-compliance is a criminal offence in terms
of Statutory Instrument
393/93 and 68/90 as read with the NSSA Act Chapter 17:04 which attract heavy fine or prison sentence or both,” NSSA said. – New Ziana.
