NSSA, labour unions to exchange notes

July 24 and 25, will be held in Kadoma.

NSSA general manager Mr James Matiza said the meeting was an annual event.
“Every year we meet representatives of labour centres so that they know what is happening at NSSA after which they also inform those they lead.

“We are a labour-based organisation, therefore, we must always meet workers for consultations,” Mr Matiza said.
“We also take this opportunity to listen to suggestions they have on improving the operations of NSSA for the benefit of the employees. These will be included in our 2014 plans.”

Labour organisations expected to attend the two-day meeting include the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, the Zimbabwe Federations of Trade Unions and the Apex Council for civil servants.

Mr Matiza said the platform was also meant to improve relations between NSSA and workers’ unions. He said it was crucial that employees understood what NSSA did with their contributions.

“During the indaba, all executive directors with NSSA will present various topics on their areas, for instance the investments director will touch on where we have invested, where we bought shares and what we will do in future regarding the same subject,” he said.

The Occupational Health and Safety director would also highlight what the authority was doing to improve the safety of workers at work places, he said.
“Contributions and compliance rate will also be presented during the meeting. NSSA will also outline the difficulties it is facing to the employees as well,” said Mr Matiza.

He said the unions would be represented at the highest level.

“We are looking forward to meet the unions’ presidents, secretaries-general and two or three others. Our aim is to meet decision-makers in these unions,” said Mr Matiza, adding that the meetings had so far yielded positive results including the recently introduced contributions rate and maximum insurable earning limit of US$700. — New Ziana.
