NSSA is sponsoring the construction of the building which will be operated by the Rainbow Tourism Group upon completion.
Costain Zimbabwe Limited Incorporated is the main contractor.
The project is being implemented under the Government’s National Economic Development Priority Programme that was introduced in 2006 though civil works went a gear up last year.
The project involves the construction of a double storey hotel, main administration building, three blocks of hotel rooms with a total of 140 hotel rooms including maintenance workshop, guardhouse and boundary wall.
Nssa chief executive Mr James Matiza said the project was 95 percent complete adding that they were expecting the hotel to be fully functional by the end of next month.
“We are very happy with the progress on the ground though the project had been delayed by the unavailability of resources during the Zimbabwe dollar era.
“We had a meeting with the contractor, CZL and other players on the ground and they have assured us that all the civil works will be completed by the end of this month
“Most of the civil works including the road network, drainage, water and sewerage, the erection of the main hotel building and electrical fittings have been completed” said Mr Matiza.
He said some of the delays on progress had been necessitated by a few logistical issues affecting CZL.
The completion of the 140-room hotel was scheduled for July last year but sources from the organisation say it was now six months behind schedule.
At its inception the hotel was expected to be fully operational in 11 months.
“You will note that we have been assisting the contractor to expedite the project by making direct payments for materials sourced from the contractor’s approved list of suppliers. We are happy that most of the required material has already been delivered to the site,” he said.
Mr Matiza said most of the rooms had been completed with the exception of a few fittings.
He said the hotel will also house the FBC and Stanbic banks which have started setting up their equipment.
“We will be having two banks in the hotel that is Stanbic and FBC Banking Corporation. Apart from that the hotel will house an office block, gym, swimming pool, casino, gazebo, bars, coffee shops, a restaurant and three conference rooms,” he said.
He added that they expected to carry out a test run of the hotel in the first two weeks of June before handing over the building to RTG to carry out their specific fittings in the rooms.
