THE Zifa Southern Region Division One League opened with Ntabazinduna Prison stunning Black Boots 2-1 at Unit Fairbridge on Saturday. Ntabazinduna continued to disappoint the Support Unit outfit whom they held to a 2-2 draw last season, which saw them missing out on the championship to Plumtree Chiefs. A Fidelis Dube brace gave the prison warders a perfect start.

Coach Agent Sawu said it was good that they managed to collect maximum points in their opening encounter.

“It was a good game, I am happy that we managed to collect all three points against a big team like Black Boots, it’s a boost for us to start the season with a victory and maximum points.

“Now we have to focus on our next match.”
Sawu praised his new goalkeeper Peter Mpofu, former Zimbabwe Saints left back Gift Phiri and left link Brace Sibanda.

“They have had enough time to adjust and I think they did well against Black Boots, the whole team is gelling well,” said Sawu.
Black Boots coach Kudzai Mutuda said they would not dwell on the setback but would focus on keeping their promotion chances alive.

“It was a good game though we lost, now we have to focus on our next game and as the team is looking good, the loss was just a setback but we can’t panic yet, it’s just the first game,” said Mutuda.

Defending champions Plumtree Chiefs began their title defence with a 1-0 victory against Hwange Juniors.

Newcomers Trumus had the better of New West City thrashing them 3-1 while the Hwange derby between Kabwe Warriors and ZPC Hwange ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Technosphere won 2-0 against struggling former Premiership outfit Zimbabwe Saints while Nust managed to grab a point in Tsholotsho after a 1-1 draw against Tsholotsho Pirates.
