THE recently launched Ntabazinduna Football Association (Ntafa) 14-team Ndabeni Tournament is about to reach its climax with semi-finals set for Ntabazinduna this weekend.
The finals are expected to be played at the same venue on 27 December.
Local businessman, Edwin Mlotshwa, launched the inaugural cup competition — that draws only teams that hail from the Ntabazinduna area — at the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) offices in Bulawayo earlier this month.
He says he was inspired to sponsor the tourney so that local teams have something, no matter how small, to play for during the festive season.
“The tournament is one of the few initiatives that help our youths in Ntabazinduna stay away from mischief and drugs and keep them occupied knowing there’s something that they can do to represent their communities.
“I believe that the tourney also offers an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy the game of football and remain united during the festive season,” said Mlotshwa.
Of the 14 teams that took part in the knock-out stages of the tournament, four remain to battle it out in the semi finals this weekend.
The semi finalists are Flying United FC, Ntabazinduna FC, Manchester Legends and Paramount FC.
The winners of the tourney will walk away with a trophy, a kit, 25 medals, soccer balls and $50 while the runners-up will get a kit, soccer balls, 25 medals and $30.
The third-placed team will earn 25 medals, soccer balls and $40 while the fourth-placed side takes home a single soccer ball and $20.
