A BULAWAYO-based nurse lost her tooth after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband for attending a church of her choice, a magistrate heard. The woman, Jane Nhongo, 28, has since applied for a protection order against her husband, Garikai Mushoriwa, 31, of Old Pumula suburb.

In her affidavit, Nhongo alleged that her husband was in the habit of forcing her to remove her clothes whenever he intended to assault her.

She also said Mushoriwa was no longer willing to share the bed with her.

“I have been married to Garikai Mushoriwa for four years and we have a three year-old daughter. My husband is in the habit of physically abusing me and recently he assaulted me resulting in me losing a tooth,”  she said.

“He emotionally and verbally abuses me using offensive language and forcing me to sleep on the floor. Whenever he wants to assault me he first orders me to remove my clothes before flogging me naked just because I have decided to attend a church of my choice.”

Western Commonage magistrate Temba Chimiso postponed the matter to January 16 for hearing.
