Miss Cynthia Nsindane from New Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo turns 26 today; as President Mugabe turns 93.
She said she is elated to be sharing a birthday with the country’s leader.
Miss Nsindane said President Mugabe will always be a role model to many youths because of his passion for education.
To Miss Nsindane, an assistant lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology in the Library and Information Science Department, being born on February 21 is a revelation and inspiration.
She said she enjoys that President Mugabe’s birthday is used to empower youths through the 21st February Movement.
Besides sharing a birthday with the President, Miss Nsindane said she is inspired by his education policies resulting in her pursuance of a career in academics.
As a result, she is now studying for a Master’s Degree.
“I’m very excited to be sharing a birthday with the President. When the country is celebrating his birthday, I also feel like they’re celebrating my birthday,” said Miss Nsindane.
She said there are many things youths need to be grateful to President Mugabe for, chief among them his education and empowerment policies.
Miss Nsindane said being exposed to education was arguably the highest opportunity that anyone can be given.
“The President has given so many youths from disadvantaged families a chance to dream. We know of the Presidential scholarship which has taken vulnerable intelligent youths to study at South African universities. I believe the President continues to impact us as youths in so many ways,” said Miss Nsindane.
She said she wishes to meet the President personally.
“That opportunity has always alluded me. I know several children born on February 21 will join him during the 21st February Movement celebrations. But
I’ve never had the opportunity to interact with him just like some of those children born on February 21,” said Miss Nsindane.
“Meeting him will be the greatest honour. I wish for a moment just to greet him. I’ve read of how charming he is but I wish to meet him even for a second.
“So many celebrities have told beautiful stories about meeting him; others even shedding tears of joy after their experiences.”
