THE National University of Science and Technology Centre of Continuing Education (Nust-CCE) has partnered with The Zimbabwe Association of Microfinance Institution (ZAMFI) to offer microfinance and entrepreneurship skills development.

ZAMFI regional co-ordinator Mr George Nhepera, said they have identified a gap in terms of skills in the microfinance and entrepreneurship and they used that opportunity to partner with Nust.

He told Business Chronicle that the agreement was approved last month and the programme would be rolled out next month.

“We identified a gap in terms of skills in the microfinance and entrepreneurship and we have managed to enter into partnership with Nust-CCE to offer a certificate in microfinance and entrepreneurship. Microfinance is an emerging sector and most institutions do not have or diploma on that and what we want is to cover that gap.

“We presented a proposal to them (Nust-CCE) three-months ago and it was approved last month. The programme will run for six months starting on the 8th of January 2018,” said Mr Nhepera.

He said their target market was microfinance practitioners, staff members of microfinance institutions, banks with microfinance, entrepreneurs of small to medium enterprises, school leavers, youths, women and anyone with a passion for microfinance and entrepreneurship.

Mr Nhepera said ZAMFI had identified policies that might have a positive impact on the economy.

Meanwhile, according to the central bank statistics, the microfinance sector represents six percent of the total loan book in the financial sector. — @Kiyaz_Cool
