TWO students from the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) missed their end of semester examinations when they were caught trying to gatecrash into the examination hall using fake clearance forms. The clearance forms are used by university students to show that they paid fees and hence are eligible to enter the examination hall.
Nust director of Information and Public Relations Felix Moyo, confirmed the development.
“I can confirm that two students who had outstanding fees were advised to visit the bursar’s office and present a payment plan so that they could be allowed to sit for their examinations,” he said.
Moyo said instead of approaching the bursar’s office, the students decided to forge clearance certificates, but they were caught trying to enter the examination hall.
He said students who faced problems with the payment of their fees should approach the university’s authorities and present a payment plan rather than trying to cheat.
“Students should desist from cheating as they will definitely get caught,” he said, adding that the two students would face disciplinary procedures.
One of the students confirmed said he forged the clearance form out of desperation as he could not raise the outstanding $200 fees that were required for him to be given the proper clearance certificate.
“I could not raise the required fees and when I went to the bursar’s office for help, they insisted on having a signed affidavit form from my mother with a payment plan,” said the student who declined to be named.
He aaded: “My mother is in Harare and because I was desperate to sit for the examination, I decided to forge the clearance certificate but unfortunately I was caught.”
