BINDURA is no doubt well established as a mining hub in Mashonaland Central Province, but beyond its mining activities, entertainment has also been thriving in the town.
One of the most prominent youth icons to emerge from Bindura is Sylvester “Freeman” Chizanga, who has also played a significant role in promoting the area through his music and entertainment initiatives.
Freeman has represented his hometown with distinction, while also positioning Bindura as a destination for fun-loving audiences by inviting fellow musicians to showcase their talent in the town and surrounding areas.
Young Turks of showbiz, largely comprising a new crop of stars, have also fallen in love with Bindura, where fans routinely turn up in large numbers to support their favourite artistes.
The latest clique to win the hearts of youthful fans in the area is led by man of the moment Junior Spragga, real name Nyasha Dedza.
Mbare-bred chanters Seh Calaz and Nutty O, alongside Madedido, will tomorrow descend on Bindura for a rare youth connection dubbed the Summer Fiesta at Makamba Square, behind Sonke Car Park.
Soundhouse Entertainment is behind the event, which seeks to raise awareness about drug and substance abuse among young people.
As expected, the campaign will also culminate in a live show where youths are expected to enjoy performances from some of the hottest stars on the local music scene.
However, much of the attention is expected to be on Junior Spragga and Nutty O, two of Zimbabwe’s most touring artistes, who have continued to attract major endorsements.
The duo’s influence is unmatched.
Junior Spragga
Event coordinator Twaibu Chuwira said the quartet’s mission went beyond entertainment, with the artistes also seeking to inspire young people and contribute towards addressing some of the challenges affecting communities.
“The quartet’s mission is not only to entertain the youths, but also to inspire them and contribute towards trans-forming their lives,” Chuwira told the Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub.
“We are more than ready for this particular occasion, where we are going to join the nation in addressing important issues such as drug and substance abuse.
“It has been on our agenda for some time, and now is the right time to address it as we host this colourful line-up of stars.
“Variety is guaranteed in the line-up, and we are raring to go.
“The euphoria is high in the community, as fans are eager to interface with their stars.
“This crop of young artistes has been doing wonders countrywide, and it is a marvel to have them performing under one roof,” he added.
Judging by the youthful and highly followed line-up, Junior Spragga is among the artistes currently making a strong impression on the local music scene. He recently got an opportunity to perform for President Mnangagwa during celebrations to mark the President’s 84th birthday in Mvurwi.
For Nutty O, the performance comes soon after his return from England, where he was unveiling his new album and engaging fans in the diaspora.
Seh Calaz also needs little introduction, having established himself as one of the voices that continue to resonate with young people through his music and social commentary.
Madedido’s profile, meanwhile, continues to rise, with the artiste steadily building a following through his music and live performances.
Other acts who have been roped in include PhatChild, Surge, Jah Bhora and Ganjah, among others.
For the artistes, the event presents an opportunity to entertain their fans while contributing to a broader social message.
Their performances are expected to add colour to the occasion and encourage young people to make responsible choices.
