Gospel musician Carol Nyakuba, a former backing vocalist for Minister Micheal Mahendere, wants her fans to move with her music which she says is full of hope and praise.

She was speaking after dropping visuals for “Tenzi Taungana,” last Friday, which has since received an overwhelming response from her fans on social media.

The song is from her album, ‘Makanaka Mwari’ which was released in 2020 and is about hope, faith, and calling to the Lord.

The song has visuals directed by Rodie Gobvu and shot in a church set-up.

Nyakuba, who is now based in Bindura, said her aim was to spread the gospel through music.

“I want to move people with my music, that is why I decided to drop the hymnal song “Tenzi Taungana” which is popular in some churches,” she said. “Music is a universal language and henceforth people should listen with a mission.

“I started testing the waters in 2018, after releasing my first single “Beauty of God.” Then in 2020, I did my album called “Makanaka Mwari” which had four tracks namely ‘Down the Valley’, ‘Tinotenda’, title track ‘Makanaka Mwari’ and ‘Tenzi Taungana’. The songs were produced by Nigel Nyangombe.”

The musician, who is married to a UFIC pastor, was brought up in Harare and as she navigated her way through the music sector, she found a mentor in Minister Michael Mahendere.

“My role model is my spiritual mother, Ruth Makandiwa, but music wise I look up to a lot of our own gospel artistes like Minister Mahendere, Janet and others like Sinach and Mercy Chinwo,” said Nyakuba.

“I grew up in a family of singers where my mother and father used to sing at church. I then joined UFIC Choir in 2010 and I’m still a member of the choir. I sing gospel music because that’s my lifestyle. I also grew up passionate about the word of God and wanting to spread the gospel through music.”

Nyakuba said she was now focusing more on her solo career.

“I have learned a lot from Minister Mahendere and now is the time to push for my solo career, based on the guidelines I have been given,” she said.

“I will be dropping another visual video soon as you know these days it is all about visuals for people to understand your music.

“With the support of my mentors and my ability to make hits that garner the attention on the streets, radio, and beyond, the future is looking bright for me.

“Like I said, I will be releasing another video in July and more tracks will be coming this year.”

The joyful singer said she was aiming to do a live DVD recording next year.
