THE Nyamandlovu man, Bhekinkosi Ndlovu, 28, who was brutally stabbed to death over a snooker game last week, was finally buried yesterday at West Park Cemetery through the assistance of well-wishers.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Dr Obert Mpofu, whose employee is one of the accused, contributed $100 while Thabile Ndlovu, a losing MDC candidate for Makokoba, provided transport for the mourners.
Family Funeral Services, a city parlour, provided a coffin and other services for free to the Ndlovu family.
Speaking on the sidelines of the burial, Bhekinkosi’s father, Clephus Ndlovu, thanked those who helped with the burial.
“I would like to thank Dr Obert Mpofu, Family Funeral Services and Mr Thabile Ndlovu, not forgetting family and friends who helped with the burial of our son. Ukuswela yikho okwenze sehluleka ukwenza lumsebenzi masinyane, (we did not have money, this is why we could not bury him earlier),” said Ndlovu.
“At this point we can only say, we hope justice will take its course on the people who are responsible for my son’s death.”
The manager of First Funeral Services, Sam Matsongoni, said his company was touched by the nature of the death of Bhekinkosi and saw it fit to help the family by lessening the expenses.
“The young man had a painful death and his family could never have prepared themselves for such. We always try and assist when it comes to situations like these as well as accidents,” he said.
The late Ndlovu was employed at Fresh Fruit in Umguza and a workmate Khulumani Msizi said Ndlovu did not deserve such a painful death.
“He was a quiet man, he never argued or fought with anyone. It is so unfortunate that he had to go in this manner,” he said.
Bhekinkosi, who was also in the district structures of the Zanu-PF Youth League, was stabbed in Ngoma Village in Nyamandlovu last week after an altercation over a snooker game.
Bulawayo magistrate Maryleen Mutshina on Tuesday last week heard how Ishmael Moyo, 26, and Limukani Sibanda, 25, both of Village 4 in Nyamandlovu, assaulted Bhekinkosi before brutally stabbing him on the left ribcage with an Okapi knife.
They left him lying unconscious in a pool of blood. The blood stained knife was found at the homestead of Dr Mpofu.
Mutshina remanded Moyo and Sibanda in custody to December 17.
