FINALLY!
THE production of the much awaited drama series Nyaminyami has come to an end and would be released in the next coming weeks. The series which had become long overdue had been dogged by a host of problems during its production.
The production of the drama series began in February last year and the death of one of the actors dealt a cruel blow as some scenes had to be re-shot.
In an interview, Amakhosi Director Cont Mhlanga said they had finished the shooting of the drama series.
“We have finished the production of the 13 episode drama series, we have given it to the stakeholders who are still watching the episodes and in a couple of weeks we will be launching it,” said Mhlanga.
He said they are now working on making the drama series available on the market.
“Once the stakeholders give us a go-ahead we will be producing more copies to bring out to the market,” he said.
The Nyaminyami series is named after a fictitious country that the drama is set in.
The series is set in the Republic of Nyaminyami. It depicts the extent of political polarisation, intolerance, violence and their consequences.
A dark cloud hangs over Nyaminyami International Business College after Bruno in his second year, guns down 12 of his fellow students.
The tension at home and in the society just after the incident makes him more violent.
Mhlanga said greed, deception, corruption, inter and intra-party political violence are the order of the day as the Republic of Nyaminyami makes the long painful journey toward her greatness.
There are four central characters that drive the story namely Bruno, Tolerance, Chocolate and Sinjonjo.
Bruno is in his mid-20s. A Business Studies student, he is self-driven and very outspoken. He has fallen in love with Tolerance and will protect her and go as far as to revenge on anyone who hurts her.
Tolerance is a beautiful college student in her early 20s. She grew up on a farm and hates violence, but her brother Theo is a violent political activist. She has ambitions of owning a hotel someday.
Chocolate, Bruno’s mother, has ambitions of becoming the Minister of Agriculture. She and her husband, who heads the police, are going through a rough patch in their marriage.
A victim of the last violent elections, Sinjonjo, on the other hand is an angry man. His wife is missing and presumed dead. His quest is to find his wife’s grave and also to avenge her death.
Sinjonjo was a rural entrepreneur in the Katongo communal area. He lost all that he had when he lost his wife.
He has been reduced to a vendor in the city and is putting together a strong group to fight back in the next election.
The drama is set on a farm in Inyathi and there are also scenes from Nesbit Castle, Emakhandeni, Burnside and also at the Bulawayo Polytechnic.
It is sponsored by the Joint Operations and Implementation Committee (Jomic).
