Nyaminyami Rural District Council has acquired motorbikes for its 12 councillors which is expected to ease travel within their wards and attending meetings in Siakobvu.

A councillor for Gache Gache (Ward 2) which is the furthest point has to travel at least 200km to Siakobvu to attend council meetings and events.

Other areas such as Mola are remote with limited transport.

Nyaminyami RDC chief executive officer Mr Cletus Matingwina said the move was aimed at improving service delivery in the remote district.

“The decision to purchase the motorbikes was arrived at after a realisation that our councillors cover long distances and also considering the (bad) state of the roads,” said Mr Matingwina.

Gache Gache Councillor Kudzanayi Makanyaire who would spend four days on the road after attending a meeting in Siakobvu welcomed the development.

“It saves money for me and council because each time I would claim for the time spent on the road,” he said.

Transport is only available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.
