Prolific writer and poet Tichaona Freedom Nyamubaya, who died on Sunday after a short illness, will be buried in Mhangura tomorrow. Zimbabwe Peace and Security Programme assistant Ms Faustina Murena said in a statement that the burial would be at Cornway Farm .

She said Nyamubaya’s body will be taken to the farm today where it will lie in state in preparation for burial.

Her brother Julius Nyamubaya said they were awaiting communication from the Government in relation to her hero status, since she contributed to the struggle for independence.

“Any decision by Government will override all that we have planned at this stage.

‘‘But since we have not heard from the relevant ministry until now, I feel we will need to honour her wish and bury her at her farm at 2pm tomorrow,” said Julius.

Julius said mourners were gathered at his home in Chinhoyi and would go to Nyaradzo Funeral Home in Mhangura this afternoon for a service.

“A lot of her friends and relatives have come to 9110 Phase 2 in Chinhoyi to pay their last respects. That has been the contact point the whole week and now a bus will ferry the mourners to Mhangura for body viewing,” he said.

Freedom died upon admission at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital due to high blood pressure.

She was 57 and is survived by a 19- year-old son
