MARGRET Nyamukondiwa made history by becoming one of the youngest player to represent the country’s women golf team at senior level.
The 10-year-old started her golfing career in 2012 from 36 handicap and is now playing off 19 handicap in just two years.
Nyamikondiwa is in Botswana with the A and B Triangular Series team that played against Zambia and Botswana.
Born in a family of two, her brother Tafadzwa, 13, is also a junior member at the Wingate Golf Club.
Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union public relations officer Evelyn Maisvoreva said it was refreshing to see such young talent emerging.
“It is most interesting to note that the father, a non-golfer, has always been there for her in her emerging career and vowed to continue supporting his daughter.
“She has been travelling with other lady golfers to provincial strokeplay tournaments and is proving to be an excellent junior golfer who can walk in the footsteps of the likes of Batsirai Tilowakuti and Yolanda Mubaiwa,” said Maisvoreva.
Margret started her career while at Hatcliffe 1 Primary School when she was in Grade Three and is now at Blackstone Primary School in Harare doing Grade Five.
Nyamukondiwa is taking part in a three-nation tournament whose original concept of the A-Division Triangular match was conceived by the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union, as a training ground for prospective Gilbertson and Page players.
The tournament was first staged in Kenya in 1991 and featured Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya.
The Zimbabwe team won.
