A Hopley Nyau dancer is on the run after allegedly detaining and raping a 13-year-old girl in Harare.
The Nyau dancer only identified as Knowledge, dressed in his Gure attire, was reported to have met the girl on her way to the shops.
Knowledge grabbed the girl, ordered her to remain silent and force marched her to his friend’s house in Hopely Zone 2.
Upon arrival Knowledge opened a spare bedroom and forced her inside and raped her without protection.
After the act, he threatened to beat up the girl with a button stick if she tried to escape.
Knowledge remained inside the house with the girl and spent the following day with her raping her.
Knowledge’s friends came with some food and cigarettes and they gave it to him through the window.
In a suspected ritual purpose, Knowledge ate the food alone and starved the girl for two nights.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Knowledge.
“Police are investigating a rape case involving a Nyau dancer in Hopley,” said Insp Chakanza.
“The accused person was reported to have lured the complainant to a house where he raped her for two days.
“On the last day at around 9pm, complainant’s father heard information from the local kids that his daughter was with the accused person at his friend’s house.
“Complainant’s father proceeded to the said address, upon arrival the accused person managed to escape and left the complainant.
“Complainant was then escorted back home by his father.
“Complainant was taken to MSF Edith Clinic for medical examination,” said Insp Chakanza.
