ZIMBABWE Beach Volleyball coach Vengai Nyaude is optimistic that their teams will do well at the 11th edition of the African Games currently underway in Congo Brazzaville. The team boasts of experienced players such as Rufaro Douglas Choto and Simbarashe Chidziva for the men’s side while Viola Muchaona and Progress Gasa will represent the women’s side.
Nyaude will look after the men’s team while the women’s side will be under the guidance of Nyasha Takawira.
The event was scheduled to start late yesterday and the men’s side was placed in Pool B that has South Africa, who they face in the opening match, Algeria, Rwanda and Senegal.
The women’s team will face the hosts Congo Brazzaville in their opening match before taking on Rwanda and Niger.
Nyaude says it’s crucial that they win their first game as that will set the tone for the remainder of the assignments in Congo.
“Our first game is the most crucial game, that’s where we set the tone for the tournament. The way we play will determine how we will perform.
“If we win our first game, we would have started on a high note which is what we want. We can instill fear in our opponents as newcomers if we win the first match.
“We have high hopes for this tournament. We are still newcomers and we have a lot to learn, we just have to remain optimistic and do our level best to make our country proud and put Zimbabwe on the world map.
