EDDIE Nyika of Commando Bullets will be the first to receive the Top Goal scorer of the month award in the World Navi Northern Region Division One League after scoring four goals last month.Nyika was on target for Commando in the past four matches against Chegutu Pirates, Starbill, Lake Harvest and on Saturday scored the only goal that saw his side collecting maximum points against Black Mambas.

The award is being sponsored by Supreme Panel Beaters who are also sponsoring the Golden Boot award.

The top goal scorer of the month will get US$200 and for the Golden Boot the winner will get US$400.

This has been welcomed by the various stakeholders in the league and hopes are high that it will increase competition as players fight for the individual prizes.

Zifa Northern Region administrator, Andrew Javachava, yesterday confirmed Nyika was the winner of the award and is set to receive his US$200 this weekend when they take on DC Academy at their home ground Commando.

Meanwhile, Gunners’ MacDonald Motsi is determined to grab this year’s Golden Boot award of the year and on Saturday scored a brace for his side to take his tally to 10 goals as the race gets interesting.

Motsi had eight goals going into Saturday’s game and he is now second behind his teammate, Moses Demera with 12 goals.

“From my point of view I think this year is my year again. Nothing is going to stop me. I am being helped by my church and I am living everything in the hands of our prophet (Walter Magaya).

“I will get the award, if I don’t, it will go to Moses Demera because the anointing of the prophet is working.  Last year I had 20 goals and I am targeting 25 goals. Last season I had seven goals by this time of the year so it’s possible,” said Motsi.

Black Mambas’ Kasimero Chimbadzwa is third with nine goals and he said he is not concerned about the award.

“The motivation is to win as a team, to score is not my personal credit but the whole team. If we win, at least, we get promotion. But if the award comes no one will say no.
“My target is to just score every game. As long as I know that I have scored for my team I will be happy,” said Chimbadzwa.

Other players running for the award include Ngezi Platinum’s Enasio Perezo with eight goals and Nqobile Mafu of Commando with seven goals.
