PREMIERSHIP newboys Nichrut have been handicapped in their fight for survival after their coach John Nyikadzino was virtually ruled out of the rest of the season to recover from injuries he sustained in a car accident recently.
Nyikadzino is still admitted at a private hospital in Gweru, two weeks after surviving a horrific road accident.
The gaffer was involved in a horror crush on the Shurugwi — Gweru highway on his way to Ascot Stadium where his side was due to host Harare City in a league last month.
In his absence the Shurugwi based side were booted out of the Chibuku Super Cup following a heavy fall away to Triangle and attention is now on preserving their Premiership status.
The newboys are engaged in a serious dogfight for survival along with Chapungu, Yadah, Bulawayo Chiefs and giants Dynamos. Club Chief Executive officer Admire Hapazari said Nyikadzino was responding well to medication and was however, still optimistic he will be returning to duty this season.
“The coach is now in a male ward he was last week transferred from the ICU after doctors felt his condition was improving.
“He is no longer in danger and judging by the way he is responding to medication we are optimistic he will be back at work before the end of the season.
“But for our league game on the weekend of 20-21 October I think he is definitely out. We are still hopeful he will play a part this season,” said Hapazari.
