VETERAN musician Obediah Matulana has ventured into reggae territory with the release of his latest single, Why Women Were Born Beautiful, a track that showcases yet another dimension of his musical versatility.

Known for his signature Tshibilika sound infused with the enduring Kanindo flavour, Matulana says the reggae-inspired offering is not a departure from his musical roots but rather a demonstration of his ability to embrace different genres while remaining true to his identity as an artiste.

The song was co-produced by Matulana and TK Dube, who also handled engineering duties and contributed keyboard and saxophone arrangements. Guitar work on the track was provided by Michael Moyo, Fabani Nyoni and TK Dube, helping to create a rich soundscape that blends reggae rhythms with Matulana’s distinctive style.

Speaking about the new release, Matulana said reggae has long been close to his heart, having grown up listening to some of the genre’s most celebrated icons.

“I grew up listening to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Eric Donaldson, Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear and UB40, so it has always been my wish to one day, release such a track,” he said.

The veteran musician was quick to assure fans that the new single does not signal a permanent shift away from the sound that has defined his career.

“I haven’t changed from Tshibilika music and my sound continues to have that Kanindo flavour. This is simply a way of showing people that I can be part of any sound and still deliver quality music,” said Matulana.

With Why Women Were Born Beautiful now out, the musician says fans can expect more music in the coming months as he continues to expand his catalogue and experiment creatively.

“As the year progresses, I will be releasing new music that will be launched in Zimbabwe and South Africa,” he said.
