Poet Obert Dube has made it to Germany where he will be performing at the International Afrika Expo Festival (IAEF) taking place in Tübingen.
In July, the African Poet, as he is popularly referred to, appealed to members of the public seeking help to raise money for his trip to Europe for the event.
However, raising US$3 500 was a struggle for the poet, but he managed to receive help and on July 25, he announced that he was short of US$800 for him to finalise all his travelling requirements.
And now, it seems the fundraising was a success as the artist is now in Germany.
Taking to his social media pages yesterday, Dube announced that he has landed in Germany and expressed gratitude to everyone who made his journey a success.
“After a long struggle, cancellations, reschedules and after all meanders, humpy and bumpy situations, I have finally made it to Germany and it’s my first time in Europe.
“The International Afrika Expo Festival is on and I have been just told that apart from reciting poetry, I am also one the directors of the ceremony.
“I have no one to thank apart from everyone who supports me,” read his post.
Organized by a non-profit making organization, The Africa We want, the festival is set to mark the re-opening of Germany to its public and visitors as a way of contributing to bringing back life to normalcy in the country after the advent of the Covid 19 pandemic.
