THE October World Music Festival roars into life this Saturday at Megga 2 Bar in Hatfield before going to other venues. The annual festival, which targets the bItalian community in Zimbabwe, will see Selmor Mtukudzi, Biggie Tembo Junior and Gary Tight sharing the stage at the joint.
Spokesperson of Megga 2 Beauty Mukandi said they were honoured to be part of the festival.
“The festival targets Italians and other expatriates and we are happy to be part of the proceedings,” she said.
It will be children of the legends affair when the trio clash on Saturday afternoon. While Selmor is daughter to superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Biggie Tembo Junior is son to the late Biggie Tembo and Gary is son to afro-fusion musician Willom Tight.
Selmor usually thrills fans that attend her show with selected hits from her albums and some by her father. She is in the habit of performing tracks which such as “Chiro” from her first album, “Zinyanga” taken from her second album and the hit song “Nguva Yangu” from her latest album “Expressions” which appears to be the fans’ favourite.
Selmor also performs her father’s songs “Wenge Mambo” and “Muchatuta” while she dances katekwe just like her superstar dad.
Biggie Tembo Jnr has been keeping his father’s legacy alive from the time he took up music a few years ago.
He released his debut album in 2010 titled “Rwendo”, which did relatively well on the radio charts. He worked on a video for the late father’s hit “Simbimbino”.
“When my father died, he had plans of shooting the video of the song ‘Simbimbino’ and to keep his dreams alive, I felt I should do the video. The video has become an instant hit on ZBC TV,” he said.
The father of one said he was currently working on his second album that will be released this month.
“My second album is titled ‘Nhaka’. It is about the inheritance I got from my father. I will keep the same beat that catapulted my father to stardom,” he said.
Gary Tight (18) did his O-Levels at Churchill Boys High School, where he joined the school band to ensure a strong foundation for his music career.
The music icon in the making said he was inspired by his father to sing, adding that he also gets moral support from his mother Nyasha Tight.
