adminThe Bulls have been impressive in the build-up to the season where they won all, but one, of the friendly games they played where they only lost to Western Panthers in the Zvishavane invitational tournament .
The Zvishavane outfit feel they have what it takes for them to get a win in the opening game of the season, something that would boost their morale.
Team manager Darlington Majoni feels that playing in front of their home crowd would be a huge advantage.
“We are ready for the challenge that lies ahead and I am glad that our first game is at home before our own fans.
“I hope the boys will give a good account of themselves because the level of competition in the National League is a bit tricky considering we will be playing not only against big guys but players with years of experience.
“Some of these players are Sables veterans who have seen it all in the game,’’ said Majoni.
The Bulls side will be pinning their hopes on their trusted players who include eighth-man Danmore Mukuta, flanker William Zingoni, scrummy Mufaro Majoni, prop Edward Jim and former Sables fullback Emmanuel Munyoro.
‘‘There are no big names in our team and this makes us equally dangerous as we can catch the opposition unaware. Most teams can only underestimate us at their own peril and like I said before we are not in the league to make numbers but to compete.
“I know a number of teams will face us hoping to register incredible scorelines but we are not pushovers,’’ said Majoni.
Bulls were promoted by virtue of being the winners of the Midlands-Matabeleland League where they defeated Matabeleland Busters in the final staged at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo.
Their elevation has seen the power base shift from the north to the south with the southern region now boasting five NRL clubs while the north is left with the three Harare sides — Old Hararians, Harare Sports Club and Old Georgians.Bulawayo will host the first derby of the season when George “Rollo” Mukorera’s Western Panthers take on last year’s runner-up Mat’land Warriors who are coached by reigning Coach of the Year Reuben Kumpasa.
Mukorera says he has a “surprise” for them.
