CHAMPIONS Old Hararians are expected to dominate National Rugby League awards set to take place next month.
The date for the awards is yet to be confirmed, but NRL president Nody Kanyangarara yesterday told The Herald that they have started the nomination process.
Given their dominance and the way they played this season, leading to them winning the league title for the first time in seven years, the Old Boys have higher chances of scooping most of the awards.
However, the NRL led by Kanyangarara yesterday set a selection criteria that will see affiliated club administrators, coaches and captains nominating.
According to the selection criteria, the club administrators, coaches and captain are not allowed to pick players from their teams.
Each club should submit three nominees for each category in order of performance, the first nominees for each category in order of preference.
The first nominee will get five points, the second nominee earns three points and the third nominee will get one point. Whoever gets more points will be the winner of the category.
In case of a tie, the NRL president will cast the deciding vote.
The top three nominees will be announced at the end of the selection process.
The winners will be unveiled at the NRL Awards dinner at the end of the season.
“The nomination process is still going on and we are yet to name the venue for the awards and the nominees.
“We are very busy with the process but everything is going on well,” said Kanyangarara.
The type of categories at this year will be Player of the Year, Backline Player of the Year, Forward of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Disciplined Player of the Year, NRL Referee of the Year, Coach of the Year, Reporter of the Year, NRL Select Team of the Year, Top Try Scorer and Top Points Scorer.
