OLD Mutual a�� the sponsors of various races in three cities a�� have confirmed the Vumba Mountain Half-Marathon that will be held on 10 0ctober in Manicaland Province.
The company also sponsors the Nkulumane 10km Fun Race in Bulawayo as well as the Westgate Half Marathon in Harare.
National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) president Tendai Tagara is hoping for an improved race at this yeara��s edition.
Top athletes, including Olympians that participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics, are expected to take part in the Mutare race.
a�?As usual, we are expecting tough competition. I am also happy that athletes who participated at the Rio Olympics in Brazil have now recovered, so we are going to witness a tough race indeed,a�? said Tagara.
Olympian Wirimai Juwawo, winner of the Old Mutual Nkulumane 10km Fun Race in June, will be hoping to continue his good form in local races.
Juwawo clocked 30 minutes 18 seconds to take the $500 first prize in the Bulawayo race.
In the womena��s category Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Servicesa�� (ZPCS) Patience Murova beat defending champion Olivia Chitate of Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to win the local race that starts and ends at the Nkulumane Complex.
She finished the race in 36 minutes 15 seconds.
Another Olympian Rutendo Nyohora who sadly finished a disappointing fifth in Bulawayo clocking 38 minutes 18 seconds will be hoping for better fortunes in Manicaland.
The Vumba Mountain Half-Marathon is organised by the Manicaland Athletics Association.
