consumers have in the past come under criticism for their spending habits particularly during the festive period, leaving many heavily in debt. Adding to the strain on household budgets is the knock-on effect of fuel and electricity tariff hikes on food inflation. To raise awareness around the problem and encourage reasonable spending, Old Mutual has launched the Shop Wisely campaign.
John Manyike, who heads financial education at the organisation, said Old Mutual was serious about financial education. ,
The campaign is built on the finance house’s popular ‘On the Money’ programme.
The film shows how humans can adapt the basic survival instincts and behaviour of South Africa’s Big Five animals, namely the lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and buffalo to better manage their personal and family finances.
“Old Mutual aims to change long-term money management habits by getting consumers to realise that creating wealth is not only about resources or earning ability, but also about attitudes.
“In helping to open people’s eyes about the importance of the right attitudes and the right habits, we believe we are equipping them to achieve financial freedom and do great things,” said Manyike. — CAJ News.
