Old Mutual launches funeral service facility in Bulawayo

INTEGRATED financial services group, Old Mutual, yesterday launched a fully-fledged funeral services business in Matabeleland region during a colourful ceremony held in Bulawayo.

This follows a similar launch in Harare a few weeks ago. The group has been offering the Flexi Funeral Plan, which was originally set up as a renewable funeral policy that has been paying out a cash benefit to cater for funeral expenses for its members or their dependants.

Taking heed of its client’s evolving needs, the new funeral product will now offer an end-to-end solution that includes fully fledged funeral services.

“Our customers spoke and requested that we offer them an end-to-end full range of funeral services. Accordingly, we have taken this bold move to offer tangible funeral services that are over and above the cash benefit we offer as Old Mutual.”

“We are delighted to officially announce our response to that call and our continued commitment to serving the Bulawayo market. Today we introduce the Old Mutual Funeral Service offering, which is over and above the cash benefit we offer, as Old Mutual Zimbabwe,” said group chief executive officer, Mr Sam Matekete.

The new service offering adds to a range of existing financial service products Old Mutual offers in the market.

Part of the services the premium brand is offering includes standard funeral services like water bowser, nationwide bus service and family courtesy vehicles.

A family courtesy vehicle, said the company, is the first of its kind in the funeral services sector at the disposal of bereaved families for any logistical needs.

The funeral packages come with a standard cash pay-out across all plans with a minimum of up to US$1 000 paid out.

“Premiums are very affordable from as little as US$3 per month. There is also 100 percent of cash in lieu, where one can claim cash out if a beneficiary’s funeral was covered by another funeral policy,” said the company in a press statement.

“In addition, the plan offers free cover for biological children, and no waiting period if one migrates from another funeral policy.”

Old Mutual Flexi Funeral policy has individual plans that suit everyone’s budget with packages ranging from Lite, Classic, Premium to Supreme.

However, additional riders are available on all plans including, income stabilisation on policy holder for six months, a cash lump sum for grocery or other expenses, tombstone, memorial service, and a bus, said the company.
