Olivine installs three 860 KVA generators

The company said in a statement that two of the 860 KVA generators are sycnronised and can take care of Olivine’s production energy requirements while the third would run the company’s head office, warehouse and distribution departments.

“Installation of the three massive generators took 12 days of 24- hour shifts.

“The generators, which were built by Gesan in Spain, were officially commissioned and handed over to Olivine Industries, following their successful testing,” the statement read.

The fully automated generators start up automatically in the event of a mains power failure.

“The two generators that take care of the company’s production systems run in synchronisation and when power fails, one of them starts up.

“The two generators’ mini-computers then ensure the load is balanced between the two generators and should the electricity load diminish and there is need for one generator, then the first generator takes over and the second generator switches itself off.

“If the load increases significantly the second computer will kick in again automatically. When power returns, the generators monitor the power supply until the system confirms that the flow of mains electricity is stable. Only then does first one and then the other generator cut off, allowing the mains electricity to take over,” the company said.

This means that Olivine’s production will not be disrupted by power cuts.

“It takes only about 30 seconds for the generators to start up in the event of power failures. The third generator operates in a similar way to the other two, starting up automatically in the event of a power failure to power the organisation’s administrative, storage and distribution activities.”

The installation which was done by Mike Appel engineers is the largest Gesan installation in Zimbabwe at the moment.
