BULAWAYO’S Stingrays Swimming Academy has arranged a welcome ceremony for Zimbabwean Olympic Games swimmer, Denilson Cyprianos who took part in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Last Wednesday marked the end of Zimbabwe’s swimming team’s road after Cyprianos finished sixth in the men’s 200m backstroke Heat One.
The result saw the gifted Zimbabwean swimmer failing to progress to the semi-finals despite posting his new personal best.
Cyprianos finished sixth in Heat One with a time of two minutes 01, 91 seconds. His previous personal best was two minutes 01, 96 seconds, which was also the person best time and a national record, which previously was a national record that he set in Ghana at the African Games.

“You, all affiliated members (clubs and swimmers) have been invited to participate in the welcome ceremony for the above-mentioned athlete, who will be returning from the Olympic Games this Sunday (today) the 4th of August 2024 at 15:35hrs aboard Air Link. This ceremony will be held at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport. We ask that all invited guests arrive before 3pm. Please could all club reps pass this on to your respective clubs and swimmers,” advised Stingrays Swimming Academy on their social media platforms.
Cyprianos was part of a contingent of seven athletics that travelled to Paris.
Cyprianos joined fellow teammate Paige Van Der Weisthuizen who was eliminated last Tuesday in the women’s category after finishing on position 25 out of the 28 competing athletes.
“That was good, I wanted to be faster, I’m happy with the personal best. It’s my Olympic debut and it was just amazing to be out there. It’s all part of the journey, I mean it’s a personal best time, I can only control myself not how other people swim. Looking forward to the future,” said Cyprianos.
The rest of the contingent consisted of a female swimmer, three track and field competitors, a marathon runner and a rower.
