One Clan riddim unites dancehall artistes

Zimdancehall producers Chillspot Records have released a new tune called ‘One Clan’ which has featured at least twenty local artists from around the country. The major highlight of the compilation, however, is the inclusion of top reggae chanter Mic Inity who has not previously been associated with the current Zimdancehall craze.

The Chillspot trio of Tafadzwa “Levels” Kadzimwe, Samson “Samcris” Gwanzura and Arnold “Fantan” Kamudyariwa have proved to be true unifiers of artistes from different labels including Dangerzone, Maninja, Masoja, Mabhanditi, Magweja, Makorokoza, Mafia and many more.

The new riddim include established chanters such as Winky D, General Sniper Storm, Freeman, Killa T, Soul Jah Love, Kinnah, Seh Calaz, Shinsoman and Lady Squanda.

Other artists also featuring on the riddim include Legend Elly, Jiggaz, Nhubu Digital, Maffcat, Quonfuzed, Layaan Soul Jah, Ricky Fire, Tally B and Terminator, among many others.

Kamudyariwa said the aim of the tune is to dispel rumours that dancehall artists from different locations are divided and there is a risk of rifts such as the Jamaican situation of the Gully versus Gazza rivalry.

“Many people think the fact that there are labels representing different ghettos might lead to factions whereby fans from different ghettos attack each other.

“Our aim in creating this riddim is to show a united front in the industry and also to make the artists create songs together regardless of where they come from,” he said.

The fact that Mic Inity has joined the mostly ragga singing artists gives testimony to the effort to present local musicians as a unified force whose aim is to entertain the people.
