ONE person died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon at the 122-kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu highway.
Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto said the driver of a Honda Fit that was heading towards Chinhoyi lost control of the vehicle as he tried to overtake another vehicle.

“The vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree. One passenger died on the spot while the other three were rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where they are receiving medical attention,” he said.

The police attended the scene and took the deceased’s body to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“We urge all drivers to be extra cautious and to follow all the rules of the road, including speed limits,” said Assistant Inspector Chapoto.

“Heroes Holiday is upon us, we do not want to continue losing lives.”
