YOUNG people have been urged to make responsible choices and stay away from drugs and substance abuse as the country prepares to commemorate Munhumutapa Day on September 15, Zanu PF Women League’s Secretary for External Affairs Cde Betty Nhambu-Kaseke has said.
Speaking after handing over an assortment of groceries to Tamuka Foundation Orphanage Centre in Kuwadzana, Cde Kaseke urged the youth to display a high level of discipline to achieve greater heights.
“The issue of drug and substance abuse is now a cancer in our country, and this initiative aims to protect our children,” she said.
The Government is intensifying efforts to combat drug and substance abuse through strategic initiatives, including a national committee and support centres.
Cde Nhambu-Kaseke said the initiative is noble and highlighted its goal to safeguard children from drug and substance abuse.
The league’s activities reflect a commitment to fostering a safe, drug-free environment for children
“We are celebrating the Munhumutapa Day this month, which is the day we remember President Mnangagwa’s birthday,” she said.
“For us as the party leadership, we are engaging in charity work as part of giving back to the communities”
“As we are celebrating the birthday of His Excellency President Mnangagwa, the youth should stay away from drug and substance abuse. They need to pursue their education to prepare for their future.”
The Women’s League is engaging in charity work across the country as a way of commemorating Munhumutapa Day.
“We are here to donate some foodstuffs, to feed the children here at Tatenda Orphanage Centre,” she said.
“We are giving back to the communities in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra, “Leaving no one and no place behind”.
The day honours the life and leadership of President Mnangagwa alongside the historical legacy of the Mutapa Empire.
Following resolutions from party conferences, there has been a push for the day to get formal national statutory recognition.
Celebrations and related activities, such as youth gatherings and community sports events like half marathons, are organised across provinces to mark the occasion.
Mashonaland Central will host this year’s celebrations with President Mnangagwa expected to headline the national youth event in Mvurwi.
