FAST-rising lifestyle and entertainment brand One Giant Picnic is set to make its Bulawayo debut on August 30, bringing together some of the city’s most celebrated musical talents for what promises to be a vibrant day of music, leisure and social engagement.

The line-up features Afro-house vocalist MJ Sings, pop singer Bhekiwe, Sfiso and award-winning guitarist and songwriter Kinah The Music, among other performers who have built strong followings in the city and beyond.

Designed as more than just a music event, One Giant Picnic aims to combine live performances and DJ sets to create a distinctive lifestyle experience that celebrates music, culture and community.

One Giant Picnic creative director Desmond Tapfuma said the artistes were carefully selected for their ability to connect with audiences and reflect the spirit of both the city and the event.

“As we prepared for our first edition in Bulawayo, we wanted a line-up that felt authentic to the city while also reflecting the broader musical culture that our community enjoys. The artists were selected because each of them brings something different to the experience,” he said.

Adding a national flavour to the occasion will be Harare-based DJ outfit Maddawgs, which has become a familiar feature at previous One Giant Picnic events in the capital.

Tapfuma said the group had earned a reputation for delivering engaging performances and creating a memorable atmosphere wherever they perform.

“We were also intentional about including Maddawgs from Harare, whose ability to read a crowd and create moments has made them one of the country’s most exciting acts. Their closing set will help transition the event from a relaxed daytime picnic into a memorable sunset celebration,” he said.

He said the event organisers had looked beyond popularity when assembling the line-up, focusing instead on how each performer would contribute to the overall experience.

“Ultimately, the line-up was not built around celebrity alone. It was built around creating a journey throughout the day, with each artist contributing to the atmosphere that we want people to experience,” he said.

Tapfuma said striking the right balance between live music and DJ performances was central to the event’s concept, with each element playing an important role in shaping the mood from start to finish.

“Live performers bring storytelling, musicianship and those memorable sing-along moments that fit naturally within a picnic setting. At the same time, DJs play an equally important role in shaping the atmosphere, maintaining the energy and helping the event flow from one moment to the next,” he said.

Bulawayo DJs Brze, Apollo Soule and Sfiso will complement the live performances, helping to guide guests through the different phases of the event and ensuring a seamless musical experience throughout the day.
