One teen, 14 burglaries in one week

A 19-YEAR-OLD Masvingo young man went on a burglary spree breaking into 14 houses and stealing various goods in a space of one week.

Peacemaker Mambudu of Mucheke appeared before Masvingo magistrate Mr Godswill Mavenge last week, where he was convicted on his own plea of guilty to 14 counts of burglary. He was sentenced to five years in jail but one year was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that Mambudu, who was working as a brickmaker would commit all the crimes during daylight at Victoria Range. He got away with the victims’ property and cash with a combined value of $2 054. He would move from one house to another, gaining entry through windows after breaking with a metal object. His honeymoon ended when, acting on a tip off, detectives managed to waylay him while attempting to pounce at one of the houses.
