ZIMBABWE National African Congress opposition party leader Mr Timothy Mncube has defected to the ruling party ZANU PF.
Mr Mncube contested in the 2023 Harmonised elections that were resoundingly won by Zanu PF.
The opposition leader said the decision to join the revolutionary party was made after the realisation that the Second Republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa was the only only leadership that continues to bring meaningful development to the country.
“After deep reflection, sincere consultation and careful consideration of the direction our nation is taking, I have made the decision to return to my former political home, ZANU PF. This decision has not been driven by emotion or personal interest. It is a decision guided by conviction, responsibility and my unwavering desire to contribute meaningfully to the future of our country.

“This is an important moment in my political journey and more importantly, in my continued commitment to serve the people of Zimbabwe,” said Mr Mncube in a statement.
He said he was impressed with the efforts by the Second Republic to attract investment for infrastructure development, policies that spur economic recovery and expand opportunities for Zimbabweans.
“While we acknowledge that challenges still exist, I believe that true leadership is demonstrated not by standing on the sidelines, but by actively participating in building solutions.

“Today, I choose to be part of that solution. As a proud Zimbabwean, I firmly believe that the future of our nation must always take precedence over personal or political differences. Zimbabwe deserves leaders who place the interests of the people above all else,” he said.
He said his return to ZANU PF is not about personal ambition but a desire to serve the country.
“I am returning with renewed energy, fresh determination and an unwavering commitment to work tirelessly for every Zimbabwean.
“I want to contribute towards creating employment, empowering our youth and women, strengthening our communities, attracting investment, promoting innovation, and helping build a stronger, more prosperous Zimbabwe for generations to come,” he said.
The opposition leader called for unity of purpose for all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation for continued national development.

“The challenges facing our nation cannot be overcome by division. They require dialogue instead of hostility, cooperation instead of conflict and patriotism instead of partisanship. Our political differences should never become barriers to national progress,” he added.
