SPORTS personalities in Zimbabwe have been urged to take healthy protein shakes and build their physical bodies naturally instead of taking steroids in an effort to get fast and unnatural results.

The call was made by the International Body Building and Fitness Federation Bikini Fitness competition bronze medalist Shirley Spreeth, who is based in Harare. Spreeth is also a part time personal trainer and massage therapist.

“Sports persons need to take healthy shakes so that they build their bodies naturally without any aide of steroids,” she said.

Spreeth also competed in the Mr and Ms Zimbabwe contest last month where she took gold, with Demi Ferrera coming second while Chantelle Marais was third.

She said the advantage of taking healthy shakes would be that one’s muscles grow naturally and don’t just turn to fat.

“Your organs grow at a reasonable pace so therefore are not under huge stress and they also will not be under high stress trying to excrete high toxins out of your body from bulking up elements found in some shakes.

“Shakes also balance sugars and therefore balance the spikes and drops of sugar normally experienced after or during training. Having a shake helps you watch your weight closer, when sugars are balanced, hormones are balanced too,” she said.
