Organic is the new green

Business Reporter
ORGANIC fertilizer manufacturing company Nico Orgo Fertilisers has appealed to new farmers to use environmentally friendly organic enriched fertilisers to conserve soil fertility. Speaking at the company’s stand at Harare Agricultural Show on Tuesday, Nico Orgo sales and marketing director Mrs Lucia Muza said organic fertilizers sustain soil fertility and produce high crop yields.

“Organic fertilizers are tolerant to excessive rains and they enrich soil fertility as they are not easily leached or lose nutrients. “Our products are also moisture conservative making it easy for crops to gain access to water and other required nutrients, making it convenient for farmers to use,” she said.

Organically-enriched fertilizers are drought resistant inputs that sustain nutrients required by plants over a long period.
Nico Orgo manufactures organic enriched, 100 percent chemical fertilizers, and chemical blends such as Superior D, Compound D, Superior tobacco blend and standard cotton blend among others.

Nico Orgo’s operations director Mr John Chimedza said they were producing between 7 000 – 10 000 tonnes of basal fertilizers per month.
“Organic fertilizers are receiving a positive response from customers we are going to double our 10 percent market share by the end of the season.

Nico Orgo’s commercial director Mr Sylvester Tsikisayi said more people were now using organic enriched fertilizers compared to when they started operating.

“Farmers are satisfied with the performance of organic enriched fertilizers as they are getting better yields and results after using them, he said.
