“The objectives of the review are to assess the main achievements towards agreed targets, to define existing gaps and mismatches, and to review national priorities and goals to accelerate actions towards the 2015 targets,” he said.
The targets were set in June 2011 when all United Nations member states committed to the political declaration on HIV and Aids.
The 10 targets under review include reducing sexual transmission of HIV by 50 percent by 2015, eliminating new infections among young children, providing treatment to at least 80 percent of people in need of it, eliminating stigma and discrimination, and eliminating gender inequalities and reducing tuberculosis deaths in people living with HIV.
Mr Mpofu said as part of efforts to profile the review process, a series of discussion forums were lined up.
These include meetings with the Government, media, civil society, donors and other stakeholders.
The last report to the UN General Assembly was done in 2010 and reported that Zimbabwe had continued to demonstrate commitments and leadership on national response to HIV and Aids.
Mr Mpofu said some of the targets could be met basing on current information on the ground.
Citing an example of reaching people with HIV with ARVs, Mr Mpofu said the country had since surpassed the 80 percent target of providing ARVs.
About 400 000 people are on ARVs against an urgent need of about 560 000 people living with HIV.
Efforts were also under way to eliminate new HIV infections in children.
