Although initial indications were that Chinyama was a on a three-year-deal, Pirates boss Irvine Khoza told the South African media yesterday that they have released the pair’s contracts have expired.
“We have released them and given them their clearances. Their contracts have expired,” said Khoza.
Chinyama was an instant hit at Dynamos in the six months that he starred for the Glamour Boys scoring nine goals in 14 matches.
But the big striker who was also once a hit in Poland could not reproduce the same magic as Pirates failed to retain the South African Premiership title.
While Pirates may have deemed Chinyama excess to their requirements, sources close to the goings on in the South African top-flight said yesterday the strike could yet remain in the Absa Premiership amid indications that he could reunite with Roderick Mutuma at Bloemfontein Celtics.
Revelations that Chinyama is on the Celtics’ wanted list also puts paid to speculation that he might return home and rejoin Dynamos.
“He is going to get a club here. Newcomers Polokwane City and Bloemfontein Celtics are interested. Even another promoted club Mpumulanga Aces but they may just not afford the salary he was getting at Pirates. He was getting big money and he should be ready to get a salary cut when joining any of these smaller clubs.
“It shouldn’t be a problem for him to secure a club. He should definitely get a club here and not return home,”said the source.
Chinyama who is in Johannesburg and has been attending the Pirates the pre-season training could not be reached for comment.
But his management team also insisted that he would not be returning home to join any of the local clubs.
“We have just heard in the newspapers but we are still trying to establish with the club. But if that is the case we are not short of options. But definitely Dynamos return is not an option.
“We have some deals with clubs in Qatar and Sudanese club El Merreikh. Takesure is a top class player and should get another club outside the country, we will just consider and see how it goes,” said a member of the management team.
In the 2008/2009 season Chinyama won the Polish Ekstraklasa Golden Boot Award after scoring 19 goals becoming the first non-European player to win the award.
Since joining Pirates Chinyama had a brief purple patch and had some good times for the team but he then fell down the Bucaneers strikers’ pecking order.
Ironically Chinyama was in March accorded the Player of the week status in the Caf Champions League by Fifa.com after a remarkable preliminary round.
Chinyama had scored a record of five goals when Pirates hammered Djabal 9-0 on aggregate.
That same month he was recognised by a South African publication as one of the top 11 stars of February.
But after that the promising start Chinyama’s game declined while injuries also seemed to take their toll on him and he was not part of the Pirates side that beat TP Mazembe to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
