A BULAWAYO man’s night out turned into a nightmare when CCTV cameras allegedly caught him stealing goods worth nearly US$700 from a parked car outside a popular city nightclub.

Augustine Daniel Ndlovu (34) of Old Lobengula suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing theft charges. He was remanded in custody to October 6.

Prosecutor Catherine Kuzu told the court that on 4 July, at Marisha Club in Bulawayo, Ndlovu and his accomplices targeted a vehicle belonging to Mbongeni Moyo.

“They opened the complainant’s unlocked car and stole a Samsung S7 cellphone, a speaker box, a five-litre bottle of water and US$564,” said Kuzu.
Unaware they were being recorded, the gang allegedly made off with the loot unnoticed.

The theft only came to light after club security reviewed CCTV footage, which exposed the culprits in action. A police report was filed, leading to swift investigations, arrests and the recovery of some of the stolen items.
Ndlovu’s accomplices are already on remand for the same offence.
