STAR FM’s Otis Fraser (pictured right) has promised to deliver his best in music when he takes to the decks this Saturday alongside South African house group Mi Casa at a gig scheduled for Old Georgians Club in Groombridge, a pretty upmarket venue. Popularly known on radio as “The Flow”, Otis – who presents the “Flow Tyme Drive Show” alongside the delectable Grace “The Soul Sister” Chikaya – promised a thrilling show.
“Well, I will be playing during intervals and since the guys (Mi Casa) are into house, obviously I will be mashing up the alternative – R’n’B, Nigerian pop and dancehall,” he said.
“The Flow” said the trend on the club scene now was that each genre including Zimbabwean music was competing for space and it was important to cater for all the music tastes.
When it comes to rocking the deck, “The Flow” rocks the party like no man’s business. He effortlessly switches from hip-hop, R’n’B to dancehall and house without missing a beat. Fans also enjoy it when “The Flow” drops some of his mixes.
Also on the bill are Simba Tagz as well as DJ Ray Dizz who will be behind the turntables.
Simba Tagz is one of the most talented Zimbabwean music producers who has featured at a number of high-profile shows while Ray Dizz is proving to be a crowd favourite whenever he is on the decks. One of his most memorable gigs was when he performed at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival where he put up a splendid show with a cool mix of hip-hop, R’n’B and dancehall.
But the focus will be on Mi Casa currently hitting the airwaves with their chart topper “Jika”. The group commands a huge following in Zimbabwe and there is no doubt their return could not have come at a better time than now.
Their debut appearance in Zimbabwe was at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts held in April where they performed before a sellout crowd.
The group performed alongside our very own talented Ammara Brown in what critics said was her best performance so far this year.
Apparently, the “Heavenly Sent” and “These Streets” hitmakers are more than prepared to rekindle their romance with Zimbabwean fans and the show has all the makings of a thriller considering their show-stopping act at Hifa.
Mi Casa has opened for international acts such as Drake, John Legend and Kool and The Gang.
They have played in over 12 African countries and the highlight of the year was their performance in Washington DC, US, at Barack Obama’s inauguration ball in January.
During their previous visit to Zimbabwe, the band showed much excitement and comfort in the country and said they had actually been working on coming to Zimbabwe for a very long time, but unfortunately unforeseen circumstances had always got in their way.
After winning an award at the 19th Annual South African Music Awards this year, Mi Casa has been in the studio working on their follow-up album Mi Casa, Su Casa.
The group released a debut album titled “Micasa Music” just after its formation. The album scooped accolades at the 18th edition of the annual MTN Samas.
They have released several other singles that are hits in and around South Africa after receiving rave reviews in 2011. Mi Casa is made up of Dr Duda, J Something and Mo-T.
