Dr Obert Moses Mpofu
NOTHING can ever be done without purpose.
However, purpose should neither be feeble nor frivolous.
It should be anchored on attaining solid outcomes.
It must also be quantifiable.
In terms of political parties, such purpose should be capable of changing lives for the better.
The people are the most important element in this matrix.
Political parties exist to serve the people.
ZANU PF has been serving the people for years and has endured the difficulties that come along with the pursuit of self-determination.
The ruling party managed to take back the land that had been robbed by colonialists from our ancestors and give it back to the majority.
This was the major aim of the liberation struggle.
Having achieved this, the work still continues.
I dare suggest that the work is never truly complete.
We are all still here for a purpose.
The purpose of ZANU PF is to take Zimbabwe to the promised land, and we have been doing quite a good job of it.
This is the assignment that dictates our very existence.
It is such a glorious purpose.
His Excellency, our President and First Secretary, Cde ED Mnangagwa, understands this; perhaps more than anyone else.
There has been so much noise as to the state of affairs in our beloved country, but much of the noise comes from outsiders.
The noise that has been made by the less informed is a simple display of ignorance.
Events of the past few months since the August 2023 harmonised elections have shown that ZANU PF has been right all along.
My party’s victory in the polls and the subsequent by-election triumphs vindicated us from all the misinformed noises that were being made by those who are ideologically inferior.
Since the days of colonialism, ZANU PF has never lost sight of what is important.
We have had our eyes firmly locked in on the target, and we have hardly ever missed.
The people know this.
This why, time and again, they show faith in ZANU PF by voting it into office.
ZANU PF has evolved from being a mere political party to a way of life.
Zimbabweans have come to live life the ZANU PF way.
This is because we have the belief and buy-in from the masses on what the mass party stands for.
Only those with a conviction of what the future should hold have an understanding of ZANU PF’s purpose.
In the old days, ZANU PF’s purpose was to free Zimbabwe from colonialism.
The party’s purpose now is to take Zimbabwe to economic prosperity through the attainment of Vision 2030.
Our beloved country is already amongst the top five fastest-growing economies in the region.
This is despite numerous difficulties such as sanctions, as well as hostility from those who have long opposed Zimbabwe’s self-determination.
We are a young democracy; one that is budding and full of promise.
However, events of the past two decades have shown that Zimbabwe indeed punches above its weight.
Zimbabwe has been under sanctions longer than it has been without the ruinous embargo since we became independent.
This means, at the current rate, whatever gains we made within the first two decades of independence would have long been eroded.
But that is not the case.
We have managed to chart a new path for our people.
We have truly defied all the odds.
Zimbabwe is strategic and offers so much promise that those who imposed sanctions on us are tactically withdrawing them now in a bid to avoid shame.
We have indeed exceeded all expectations.
Now, everyone wants to learn how we have done it.
Zimbabwe is now a marvel.
Our enemies expected us to crumble, but here we stand; a proud nation standing tall amongst the community of nations.
The sanctions imposed on us were designed to finish us off.
Continued efforts from our detractors are meant to discredit us and have us suffer, but all this has failed.
We have been pursuing our agenda and moving our country forward.
Zimbabwe will not and shall not fail.
The people’s party, ZANU PF, will see to it that we continue with our quest to get to the promised land.
As economic prosperity that has been engineered by the ZANU PF-led Government under the astute leadership of His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, beckons, the glorious purpose of this party is fully revealed.
Economic prosperity beckons, comrades.
