THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) have distanced themselves from social media posts alleging that teams from the two entities were the cause of the Masvingo road accident that resulted in the death of six people.
Six people lost their lives on Thursday when at the 246-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road, Masving after a Toyota Corolla vehicle and a Mercedes
Benz truck collided head-on.
The deceased have been identified by police as Lilian Maranda Mujuru (40) Nokutenda Mujuru (15), Makanaka Mujuru (13), Ronald Junior Mujuru (11), Rufaro Shalom Mujuru (7) and Kayden Mujuru (3) all from Tynwald North in Harare.
“The ZRP extends deepest condolences to the family of the victims. We appeal to drivers to seriously consider road safety while moving on the country’s roads this Easter and Independence Holidays.
“Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has no report or confirmation
that this sad accident was caused by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption
Commission and Zimbabwe Republic Police teams. The police dismisses
any social media insinuation with the contempt it deserves,” said ZRP in a statement.
ZACC has also dismissed allegations that its team was the cause of the accident.
“The Commission condoles with the bereaved families and wishes the injured speedy recovery. The Commission is also concerned with a circulating video and audio that wrongly implicates ZACC officers in the tragedy and informs the public once again, that there are no ZACC officers deployed at any roadblock throughout the country.
“The circulating video and audio allege that the accident was caused by ZACC officers who ordered a truck to turn into a BP garage along the Masvingo – Beitbridge Highway, resulting in the fatal crash.The public is advised to verify information through the ZACC Communications,” said ZACC.
