Sir Wicknell was a game changer to some, even the usually looked down upon Vapositori were now among the best in terms of financial assets.

He changed the life of some socialites, he united the Dhuterere family, he united the Mutukudzi family, numerous artists have been transformed by his generosity, he used his financial resources to help those who were related to him and those not related to him, which many among our relatives, who are financially stable, cannot do.

He had a giving hand but some might have questions on his choices of who he had assisted but that doesn’t take away that he was generous and had a giving hand in Zimbabwe more than many people of our lifetime. – Webster Chasakara

His Royal Highness Chief Dr Mumena XI and the Mumena Royal Establishment extend their heartfelt condolences to the families of Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, as well as the families of all those who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter accident in Zimbabwe on 30th September 2026.

The Royal Establishment particularly conveys its deepest condolences to the family of the late Captain Calvin Tafirei Soda, who was piloting the Bell 430 helicopter when it tragically came down in Marondera Rural, approximately 70 kilometres from Harare, after reportedly developing a fault.

All five people on board were Zimbabwean, and the Mumena Royal Establishment joins the people of Zimbabwe in mourning this tragic loss of life.

The passing of Captain Tafirei Soda is particularly poignant to the Mumena Royal Establishment. In 2025, the late Captain flew His Royal Highness Chief Dr Mumena XI and members of the Royal Establishment aboard the same Bell 430 helicopter from Lubiinda Capital in Mumena to Zambezi, where they attended the 2025 Lunda Lubanza Ceremony.

His professionalism, service and the memories of that journey will forever remain cherished by His Royal Highness and the Mumena Royal Establishment.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and the people of Zimbabwe during this difficult period of mourning. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may God grant their families strength, comfort and courage during this difficult time. – Mumena Royal Establishment-MRE
