Ousted Zanu-PF MPs warned against impeaching President

Lloyd Gumbo Harare Bureau
ZANU-PF legislators have been warned against attempting to impeach President Robert Mugabe following the sacking of Vice President Joice Mujuru and her cabal from both the party and government.

Mashonaland Central party chairperson Cde Dickson Mafios and the province’s youth league chairperson, Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu, said Zanu-PF legislators would regret such a move.

They made the remarks during a surprise celebration party held in Harare last week organised by Zanu-PF cadres from Mashonaland Central to honour newly appointed national political commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere. “MPs, if you attempt to impeach President Mugabe like what’s being talked about by the MDC-T, we know how to deal with that and you will regret,” said Cde Mafios.

Muzarabani South MP Cde Christopher Chitindi interjected saying: “Goche is the one who was lying to us, now it’s over.”

Cde Tsenengamu added: “MPs be warned, don’t you dare attempt to do what the rumour mill is saying because you will regret.”

Speaking at the function, Cde Kasukuwere called for unity in the province. He said while people in Mashonaland Central had been divided, with some aligning themselves to Cde Mujuru, it was time to let bygones be bygones and start on a new page for the province to remain a Zanu-PF stronghold.

“We just need each other for the sake of the heroic people of Mashonaland Central who sacrificed so much,” said Cde Kasukuwere. “Unity is very important. This is a task that has been held by giants who built our province and country, the likes of Cdes (Border) Gezi and (Elliot) Manyika. Comrades, conflict is very painful and expensive. If we don’t agree on something, let’s talk. Instead of buying people for allegiance, let’s use the money to build party offices.”

Cde Kasukuwere said Mashonaland Central should shoulder the blame for its minority representation in the Politburo announced this week because of Cde Mujuru’s treacherous behaviour.

Mashonaland Central only has two cadres in the Politburo, Cdes Kasukuwere and George Rutanhire, who is a committee member.

Cde Kasukuwere said it was gratifying that the majority of MPs, Politburo and Central Committee members from the province graced the party, a testimony that they were committed to unity.

Some of the party heavyweights who attended the party included Mashonaland Central Minister of State Advocate Martin Dinha, Cdes Rutanhire, Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Tabitha Kanengoni-Malinga as well as legislators Cdes Kazembe Kazembe (Mazowe West), Edgar Chidavaenzi (Mazowe North), Shamva South representative Cde Joseph Mapiki, Cde Wonder Mashange (Rushinga) and Cde Getrude Chibagu.

Speaking on behalf of the MPs, Cde Kazembe said Mashonaland Central was honoured to be given the mandate to lead the commissariat department.

Advocate Dinha said: “Your appointment coming in the wake of some comrades deviating from the party values and losing out has brought back the dignity of our province. I want to urge people in the province to support you.”
