WARRIORS players could count themselves unlucky this evening if they fall to Burkina Faso in the ongoing African Nations Championships in South Africa after refusing to sign contracts with new clubs before the tournament.
The players were hoping to secure moves after a good run in the tournament and today will be d-day not for the team but the players as well.
A loss could scupper hopes of moves to South Africa with focus turning to teams that are progressing to the quarter-finals.
The Warriors who are yet to score a goal following their uninspiring performances in the two draws, need to win to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
One player who went into the event hopeful of a move after the tournament is Milton Ncube who was with Highlanders last year.
George Deda a Harare publisher who has helped several players secure deals outside the country, told Chronicle Sport on Friday that Ncube could live to regret after turning down Chippa United offer.
“He had a deal which could have earned him about R30,000 a month with Chippa United. Milton said he could only consider that after the tournament but what should be appreciated is that such chances usually come once.
“Competition for recognition at the tournament is very high so there is no guarantee that he will move,” said Deda.
Ncube is believed to be also on Moroka Swallows’ radar.
Warriors coach Ian Gorowa has previously worked at Swallows.
Amin Soma-Phiri, of Luveve Big Eleven, the club with rights to Ncube said he was not in a position to comment about the player’s future.
“Highlanders are the best people to speak about that. Hold on to the story about those moves,” begged Soma-Phiri.
It would appear attracting scouts was the big pull factor for most of the players and not national pride and honour.
