OUTGOING Junior Harare mayor Councillor Solomon Mzumara has urged the 73rd junior council to ensure all youths feel appreciated, encouraged and equipped to achieve.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 73rd City of Harare Junior council recently, Cllr Mzumara said the new council is there to be part of a wonderful legacy of change, innovation and progress.

“And as this journey begins, it is one of many systematic challenges. What makes a junior council effective is the ability to work collectively through them and usher in a wider community collaboration for a brighter future, because as junior councillors, we have

embraced the saying, anytime is tea time,” he said.

“We do not differentiate the times in which we fully embrace our role in society from the times when we don’t, because your heart should sink when you see any young person of Harare suffering and being disadvantaged, as we do not work only when we are being

inaugurated, but throughout the year.

“And as you have promised, not just to our community but to yourselves, that you will always uphold the office that you have obtained.

“So when you take any picture of this special moment, remember that you have promised to uphold this role, the title you have been given, because we are here to serve our brothers and sisters of the city.”

Outgoing junior Councillor Faith Alumenda said it has been a privilege to serve, grow and learn.

“When it comes to being a junior council, it’s one of the most amazing moments in life.” Councillor Alumenda said.

“When you are a junior councillor, you have studies, you have school, you have extracurricular activities, clubs in school.

“To those that are coming after me, remember this verse: Proverbs 10v 4-Diligent hands will rule while laziness ends in forced labour,” she said.

“Our hard work and dedication paid off. When you are in junior council, be someone who knows your timing, who has goals and sets them straight.”

She said she is proud of the achievements of outgoing junior councillors.

“It has been my privilege and honour to appreciate the wonderful expertise and unwavering support of the Local Government, who have been our support and guidance as a junior council,” said Cllr Alumenda.
